There is another example of an Elgin No. 349 on page 26 of this thread. An Eastern Canadian Railway map showing Stratford on the left-hand side, on the CNR railway line from Toronto, Ontario. The Grand Trunk Railway arrived in Stratford, Ontario in 1856, along with the Buffalo and Lake Huron line, that began Stratford's long history as a major rail center, in 1871 a locomotive repair shop was built that was expanded in 1889 and 1906. The Grand Trunk Railway amalgamated with the Buffalo and Lake Huron Railway and after World War I the railway became part of the Canadian National Railways system.

After the Canadian Pacific Railway was Incorporated in 1881 to build the mainline to connect British Columbia with the rest of Canada. The charter called for a line to be built westward from Lake Nipissing in Ontario, where a connection would be made with the Canada Central Railway that ran Southwest from Ottawa to Perth Ontario, they then acquired the Ontario and Québec Railway that built there mainline from Perth through Tweed, Havelock, Petersborough. Agincourt, Leaside, North Toronto, to Toronto junction (West Toronto.) A distance of 199 miles. Perth was the location of the Brockville & Ottawa Railway yard and shops, with a 12 mile branch from Smiths Falls the CPR bought this line, and used it as a link in building their line from Montréal, Québec to Toronto, Ontario.I have attached a map showing the red CPR lines from Ottawa down to Toronto, Ontario on Lake, Ontario
