This is a 2 star that I got back in 90's...It is a unmarked Illinois 23 jewel grade 174..Serial number is 2232986...Not sure but I think there were less than 500 made..

Do you know if these dials were used only on the "4 Railroader" or were they on other Illinois watches as well?

The movement appears in such good condition for such a soft metal I assumed they alloyed it for hardness.

The book shows the Elgin 161 as a 2 star watch. here is the dial. ![]()

Lorne, don’t know if used on other movements (though two different 24 hour dials show in the 1923 parts cat) but according to Megegrs seems only these two where used for the Railroader (with a third one seen in an add only). Buster has the “very rare” dial, nice! Gary, real nice Illinois Getty you have!

Joseph, Now that's a real beauty...I really like the WGF case too.
|
No idea how many stars this Illinois 21 jewel Sterling 12s has. The lack of a seconds dial was what captured my attention. Paul Kattner

Joseph, you're making me jealous, I especially like the Hamilton For Railroad Service. I think I see 2559214, what is the other serial #?
|
Hi Lorne, thank you. Yes the factory serial # is 2559214, the hand etched serial # which is located just under the factory serial # is so small that I have a hard time reading it with a magnifying glass. The etched serial # is 37055 and from what I know no one is really sure why the extra serial # is there....
