I have a 937 coming and it has an incorrect dial. One person suggested that it should have a DS dial with RN, and a RR track around it. My question is whether ANY DS early "Hamilton watch Co." 18s dial is appropriate, or is it specifically the RN RR track type? This is a 4 digit SN 937 movement. I have not actually seen the watch at this point. In looking at Buster's response to Gene Buffard's request for a dial on his 954, I notice that the add says any 16s dial will fit. It seems that since the dial was an aftermarket choice at the jeweler, it should not be a big concern. As always, opinions are sought, good or bad!

Yes, that's "964" Mike that I talked with Gene about. And yes any dial could be had on his watch. As to your early 937, any "Hamilton Watch Co." signature dial would be appropriate. However........ I would suggest that any of the watches that had a minimum of 17J and were adjusted to 5 Positions such as Gene's 964 O/F, and including your 937 H/C To have a DSD fronting them as most of them "came" that way from the factory when a movement/dial/hands went out unless a "special order" for a seconds sunk only came in or when a movement only went out. As to RN or AN on your early watch, use whatever you wish as both were in vogue. Here are some 18sz. Hamilton Grades and Adjustments;

As you can see even as late as 1921, watches could be "grandfathered" in and watch inspectors did have some leeway BUT the watches still had to perform or live up to the set standards for timekeeping. regards, bb
