Peter; I'm not an expert on this, but I would rather see it in a Model 10 or Model 2 case.

Given the date I suppose it would be ok, Ed P could tell you for sure.

Peter,

I am guessing the 992E movement is from the 6-9th run 2,619,001 - dating to 1939 to the last run in 1940 with a serial # before 2,655,300.

Still don't think the model A would be correct

Would go w/ model 2 or 10 - like Tom stated - the few later #s E's I have seen are sporting them...

Peter,

Tom has a good point, a Case 2 or 10 would definitely be a more "non-argumentative" case, but a Case A could be correct under certain circumstances . . .

As Jon pointed out, the Hamilton/Keystone Case Model A didn't start until 1940, so it wouldn't be correct unless you have a 1940 watch, which would be from one of these 2 runs of 992E:

2641001-2649000
2651001-2655300

THe Case A would have to be shouldered and have a very low case number (see photo) to make it credible.

Peter,

Your Case A would need pendant shoulders (see photo) to have any credibility on a last run 9902E. To be considered strictly correct for 1940, the case number would have to be all numbers, with the first 3 digits 120 thru 124. The K prefix started later.

Case A w/ Shoulders (1940-1948) on the left -- w/o shoulders (1949-1954) on the right

There might be an issue w/ case screws marks possibly not lining up - if the model A originally housed a 992B movement Eek

Yes, that's a potential issue if the marks don't match and they're too deep to polish out.

Best Regards,
