Here is a cool watch I bought this week. It is an Elgin Grade 571 21J B.W. Raymond railroad-grade pocket watch. The movement is marked "9 ADJUSTMENTS" and has a serial number of P802886.

The things that caught my eye about this watch were the "B.W. Raymond" marked Montgomery dial as well as the 3057 stainless steel case. I haven't seen too many in this configuration.

Comments welcome.

Single sunk dial with no hairline cracks that I can see. I have three other BWR marked Elgin dials, but none with the marginal minutes. The other three all have a thin black inner circle which makes them look double sunk, but they are all single sunk like this one.

Case back shows a bit of wear, but very sturdy. I love the stainless cases.

3057 case markings. This case is not listed in the back of the Elgin section of the Shugart Price Guide.

The movement is also very nice. The serial number P802886 is code for 52,802,886 which would date this watch to the early 1950s.

It is a correct dial for the watch, also your watch is the 3rd variety of the 571. The 3rd version was marked BWR, and 9 adjustments. Everything I see looks legit, hands, dial, and case.

Nice Elgin Grade 571-C John and that dial is attractive and different....I have one on my 571-C as well, SN-I274091....

You are correct when you say it is a cool watch because these 571 grade watches had the duro power main spring and were very good runners....this one when fully wound will run nearly 60 hours....they were all great time keepers....

Great find...!

Regards,

Jerry

I am not too sure how "expert" my opinion is but my A-B-C versions are in order. They are correct except for "B" which is a lot like yours but I need to get the correct second hand for it.
