Just got this s/n 861749=1912 with 4 foot dial with block HAMILTON on dial. From the year of manufacture I believe it should have a dial with script lettering. What do you think? Roger ![]()

My understanding is Roger that this type of font started somewhere close to the 1920's, your watch should have a dial with the Hamilton in script as you have mentioned not block font. Cheers

Nice movement, great collectible! My guess is that it was a replacement installed > 1920. Having 4 foot replacement dials would not require they be "old" script.

That is what I also Bila.I pulled the dial thinking it might be a 3 ft.dial that someone had installed on the movement but sure nuff it has 4 feet.I have been told that Hamilton made "replacement"dials for folks who might want to upgrade to a different look.Maybe that is what happened here.

David I guess we were both typing at the same time. Thanks for your input.Does that make this dial correct for this movement?

[quote] "I believe it should have a dial with script lettering. What do you think?" [end quote] You are correct Roger as the current dial on the watch would be an "upgrade/replacement" after the HAMILTON signature dials came out with the new font but still being made with 4 dial feet. It was designed as a replacement dial with the later font for the older movements that required 4 foot dials. It would not be correct for your movement, but would be a later made, workable, replacement dial, as David said. regards, bb
