The Illinois Watch Company made the A. Lincoln grade movement in three different sizes. It’s a high quality grade and the 18 size and the 16 size open face movements were railroad approved. Today being President Lincoln’s birthday seemed like a good time to start this post. Below is information on this grade from American Pocket Watches, Illinois Watch Co, Volume Two by Meggers and Ehrhardt. American Pocket Watches page 90 size 18 and page 118 size 16 ![]()

Here is an A. Lincoln Getty Serial #2261792 model 5. It looks like the model 8 was the least common with only 400 being made. Anyone in the club have a model 8 to show us? RR ![]()

Here it is just like I got it. I don't know anything about these so I don't know how correct it is. I highly suspect the hands are not correct as they seem to be cheaply made. ![]()

A worthy post for the noteworthy attention the Bunn family paid to honor Lincoln with their Highest Quality Named watches as a tribute for his service to their family and our country. . . Sad that A.Lincoln never carried an Illinois Watch. Some (me too for a minute) thought he had at least carried a Waltham . . . not so. A few that have passed through my collection . . . ![]()

Why are the Bunn Special 16 size watches seemingly more popular (and valuable) than A. Lincoln's?
|
IHC Life Member |
John- Bunn Specials had more highly decorated plates, and later versions had motor barrels and the rightfully famed "Sixty-Hour" motor barrels. They were sold at a higher price, and considered a higher grade watch. Almost all of the "A. Lincoln" watches had the striped and nickeled plate decoration, and the 16s watches never had motor barrels. Regards, Bob

Not to detract from Illinois, but a Google search of 'Lincoln's watch at the Smithsonian' will provide some nice photos and information, including the secret message inside.

When you see a double sunk montgomery dial on an illinois there is usually a good movement there. Nice watch Mike
