Peter, I have two of them. And it's my understanding that they came with a "faux" double sunk dial. They look double sunk but they're not. Arabic numerals, red 5 minute markers, and "ELGIN" in block letters. I'll see if I can post a pic. Regards, Brad

Peter here is a link to a IHC page where Gary sold a 1903 Overland. I don't know enough about them to know if the dial is correct but I like it. https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...6095371/m/5903957777

Probably double sunk or the pressed center dials would be correct. I think from what I have seen depending on the Overland grade they started with a double sunk dial and later as the name and grade diminished they ended up with the pressed center dials. Since there were several Elgin grades that were marked Overland and some grades that carried as many as 3 markings, typically Overland, GM Wheeler, or Elgin National Watch Co, or as some would say no marking. In the case of the ones Dave posted, I would have expected the 3rd watch (L-R) to have the same dial as the first one with a DS <<Elgin>> font, I can't read the SN on the first one so I'll assume it is an earlier grade, the middle one is a later Overland grade and seeing the pressed center Elgin font does not surprise me.

The first one in my pics is a 10,000,00 range, or about 1903. The Thrid one is a 6,000,000 or about 1895. Thise dials are probably correct. The middle one looks like it may be a replaced dial.

Peter your Overland is a 279 so I would expect it to have the <<Elgin>> font and probably with a SS dial. The earlier versions I would expect to have <<Elgin>> with a DS dial but the very early ones you are into the time from when Elgin was moving from the ENWC font to the <<Elgin>> font. The later grade 353 Overland you would typically find with the pressed center Elgin block font, which Elgin did for its mid-segment 17j 16/18 size grades.
