Howard Series 11 Rail Road Chronometer Serial Numbers Database "Click" to Login or Register

This is the serial number, case number, etc. list I have been working on for Howard Series 11 Rail Road Chronometers.

I started gathering this list when I noticed a watch David Abbe posted had the damaskeened pattern & I had not seen that before. I started searching this site, Ebay & any where else on the web I could find information on these.

There are other differences in different runs of the Series 11, some have a bar click, some rotary, some have the arrow & star symbol, some do not. It also appears that these only came from the factory in Keystone/Howard cases (Keystone owned Howard). They used either a swing out case of the double cross bar safety bow case.

The only way I could post this & keep my format was to post it as an image, if there is a trick to posting & keeping your original spacing I would like to know how to do that.

You will notice that the 1st few serial numbers are not complete & every serial number does not have the complete info. Some of the images & posts I looked at either I could not read them information of the images or it wasn't listed.

This is a work in progress, if you see a benefit in doing this please send me any information you have & I will add it to these lists.

One thing I did not know until Lindell told me is there were yellow gold & green gold cases & white gold cases, so you will see one in the list labeled DCBG & that means Double Cross Bar Green. He also told me that there were pattern back cases, since when I started this I wasn't paying attention to the cases I did not note their color or if they had a pattern back, so I need to go back & try to determine that.

Look forward to hearing any comments.

Also if anyone has a break down of the run numbers for Series 11 Chronometers I sure could use it.

Tom

Great work Smile Tom,

Thanks to your efforts these great watches will finally be getting the attention they deserve! As you know all of the Series 11 Howards were factory cased and all of the proper cases, both Crescent and Keystone will have E. Howard Watch Company markings.

Hi Tom,
Everytime I go clicking around on IHC, I find something new and interesting that I can contribute to - like your project, for instance. You are a bit hidden here, deep in the bowels of the inner sanctum. Hahaha! Truly, I think you would get more 'hits' if Howards had their own heading on the discussion site main page as do Ball, Hamilton, Studebaker and others. Anyway.....

Attached here is a photo of my Howard chronograph. I think you can get what you need from the photo except to say it unfortunately is not in a Howard case.

I do not know what the main heading "A & S" means, and I do not know what a bar click is. I'm gonna guess my click is a 'Rot' because its round Smile
Best,
Mike

Thanks Mike

I added your number to the list, the A & S are for arrows & star, which yours doesn't have, some runs had them & some didn't. Your is the rotary click as you thought.

Thanks again

Hopefully David Abbe doesn't mind me borrowing his photo, this is from a post he made in the past of one of his watches, it has the bar click. It is a series 10 but the series 11 had the same bar click.

Howard Series 11 Snap-On vs. Dial Feet

For the collectors or followers of the Series 11 RR Chronometer, somewhere around serial# 1,360,000
Howard started using 3 footed dials. Before that number Howard used "snap-on" dials Eek
That is why you will notice in the serial number ranges recorded here that the ones after 1,360,000 started showing up in the "safety bar" cases. The earlier ones with snap on dials will NOT work in the safety bar cases as the ring around the snap on dials is just a wee bit too large for the safety bar chronometer cases Eek
Please make a note and take that into consideration BEFORE purchasing a loose case or movement and trying to perform a marriage between these two Big Grin
regards,
bb

Thank you for the information, I have corrected the one & added the other.

I need to apologize, I have not been keeping up my research for new ones to add to the list.

It still would appear that there is still only one group that had the damaskeened (sp) pattern on the movement.

The above Chronometer Series 11 (now sold) was in a RR standard case as shown in the ad. The watch I still have is in a different case - not bar over, but original. The (later) serial# on this one is 1378346. Good timepiece. Very accurate.
