instructions how to dis-assemble a 23 jewel Vanguard u/d indicator spring barrel.

my friend is working on a Vanguard with the indicator gear on the spring barrel and wants to know how to get it (the spring barrel) apart??? Confused Confused

This is a two piece arbor threaded together in the middle. Install ratchet wheel on arbor, Hold barrel between fingers, Unscrew arbor by turning ratchet wheel. Right hand thread. Lower half will begin to float, unscrew it fully.

Tom, I have found the safest means of unscrewing the two-piece motor barrel arbor assembly is to re-assemble the large winding wheel ("F") to the barrel arbor, that gives you a "hand" on one end of the arbor assembly. Then grip the barrel itself (with a soft clamp) and you should be able to "break loose" the threaded arbor assembly.
