I love looking at and even owning a pocket watch with fancy hands. Cool They can be so ornate and frilly! Smile Which watches have the designation of fancy hands? Confused By that I mean, are fancy hands put on watches of higher grade or for some other reasons? Confused How often do you think "fancy hands" are switched or replaced on dials? ConfusedAre they made of 14K, gold filled or what metal? Confused Which watches come originally with fancy hands? Confused Did a predominant manufacturer use fancy hands? Confused

I'm going to start to answer this one.

I believe that most of the time the hands you are refering to were installed by the jeweler upon customer request. Most of the time I have seen them infront of a fancy dial but not always. I think they look great infront of a pretty white dial myself.
Most of the watches you will see them on are 12s and smaller but once again not always.

Anyone else?

Here's a Swiss pocket with gold filagree hands. Vacheron & Constantine, Keystone J. Boss 18-k case, bezel flips open when the crown is depressed. Looks like the auto focus was seeing the pattern in the silk rather than the dial.

Thanks Aaron Smile

Charlie, I hadn't thought of black hands as fancy until now.
Thanks for the wonderful pics! Smile

Here's a set of what a lot of people think of when "fancy hands" are mentioned. Like John's these
are filagree or Louis the 14th style cast in gold. The dial on this watch is also rather a fancy one.
