can't get the movement out of caseGo ![]() | New Topic ![]() | Find-Or-Search ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply to Post ![]() |   |
I picked up a Lady Elgin 6/0s on ebay for 13 bucks. It's in beautiful shape and was advertised as not working. I tried to get the movement out of the watch this morning, but it doesn't seem to want to come out. I can tilt it and the bottom is almost out, but it just won't come loose. I don't want to force it. I was thinking the stem might be in too deep, but without getting the watch out, I can't loosen the crown. What can I do? Funny enough, when I was toying with it, I loosened a screw on the bridge plate and the watch started to tick. It's still going a couple of hours later. But of course I want to clean and oil it still.

Hi Dale, That one will likely have a detent stem. Assuming it does then look for a little hole where you insert a probe and press or perhaps a screw to loosen half-turn-at-a-time until it releases. If I am correct one or the other of those should be pretty well in line with the crown. But not being specifically familiar with this particular movement I am not certain so at this point that is about all I can think of. Like you my friend, the adage "do no harm" is always foremost. These are really nice and sad to say vastly underappreciated watches. I am please someone is serious about saving them, good for you! Lindell

Thanks so much. It has a little screw that when loosened the stem assembly slipped out. I had no idea that was the case. Yes, I have fallen in love with the little ladies. When they come available on ebay, I can get them for ten, twelve dollars. Last night I bought another one for ten, and the seller says it runs. I don't know if when I clean and oil them they'll have that much resale value, but I just like them and figure if I can work on something that tiny I can work on anything! The solid gold ones are much sought after, but not the little gold filled ones I think. But alot of them have original bracelets. I'm going to wear this one myself.
