12 size Dudley questions "Click" to Login or Register
posted
This may have been covered before, but does anyone know what factory made the Dudley basic movement?? I have one on the bench now for staff replacement. The staff is a 12 size Hamilton single roller type (their terminology). But the movement is rather cheap looking and bears a certain resemblance the some Gruen "Watch Specialties Co." movements, especially with the large deep jewel settings. The two are contemporary. BTW the watch was found in an abandoned house in Minneapolis! The house restorer who found the watch has done his googling and knows what Dudleys are all about.

Bill,

If it is genuine, your Dudley example should be a Model 2 which was based upon a 12-size 19-Jewel Hamilton movement. The earlier Model 1 had its roots in a 14-size 19-Jewel Waltham.

Check pages 176-177 of the 2007 Complete Guide to Watches.

And this: "Find-Or-Search" for Dudley may be interesting! Be sure to check out Rick Kuhn's and Frank Kusumoto's restoration and all the other postings about Dudleys as well.

There are many pictures on site for comparison at that link.

Let us know what you determine!

Yup-it matches that model 2, right down to the metal dial and hands of the watch in that thread you linked me to. (I rarely use the price guide anymore). If I run into any other issues, I know what I have. Many thanks Lin!
