Back in the earlier part of the 20th Century it was fashionable to wear a watch fob of a peach seed pit hand carved to resemble a monkey. Here's one in my "junque" drawer.

Don't know the whole story of a monkey ?? Perhaps "see/hear/speak NO evil" ....

regards,
bb

Our Dad, (Charles Hodge, and I) carved probably 100s if not 1000s of these monkeys. His brother carved one for Dad who used it as his good luck charm for WWII (the big one), and it apparently worked. Dad carved them for any kid in the neighborhood free gratis. Here are a few examples.

Final. One of these I carved when I was about 13 or 14. It is the least detailed. I have a few more of these but that would require finding where I put them. These examples are as crude as he ever made. Some were quite well done.
