Waltham Gr 845 Mdl 1892 "Click" to Login or Register

Hi all,
Just received a Grade 845 Mdl 1892, and have been looking at it. This watch has a star regulator, and I was wondering if they all do ?? As I look on the large auction site and elsewhere I have noted as many that do have this regulator, there are as many that do not. Should they all have the star regulator ??

Hi Bill,The later 92 model RR grade Walthams had the "Olsen" regulator instead of the gold star wheel type on the earlier ones.The same style regulator was used on the 16S 1908 models also.Hope this helps! Regards, Ted.

Hi Bill;

Being new to all this still I haven't a clue but here's an 18 s 845 Model 1892 with a glass back that I just bought a couple of weeks ago. It has serial # 17018959 but I can't find out what year it was made. Anyone know how to find out?

Thanks

Bud

Look at the tag attached to the bow. c1908 = 1908

Hi Bud,
according to the guide, I think yours is about 1908.
I see yours also has the other regulator, I guess Olsen style.

Bill, I just also got one of these after wanting one for years!Mine's a 15 mil. serial number, like yours, has the gold star wheel regulator, and also has the "5 positions" marking.These are a really sharp looking movement.I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that the regulator "star" on the high grade Walthams is supposed to be 14K gold.I think that up in Canada,where Waltham RR watches were really popular, there must have been a lot of 845's used in RR service....Ted.

Hi Ted,
Yes they appear to be rather fancier damanskeening on the earlier ones, etc. I do not know if they had a solid gold star or not someone might be able to answer that ???
I was just looking at mine again and noted it has a diamond end stone, and again am wondering if the earlier ones all had that, or conversly how did they pick the ones that did have them ?????
Sure nice looking watches either way, and I have a few RR grade watches not neccesarily Walthams from Cdn RR service, but I think you're right the Walthams seemed to be a favorite here. Always interesting this collecting of watches.

ha ha, thanks Cecil, now why didn't I think of that. I was so excited when the watch arrived I'd not even looked at the tag.

You're quite welcome Bill, and I'm actually quite happy that I can be of some help to someone after all the help I've received here. It made my whole day in fact.

Hi Bill;

Actually I can't tell if there's really much difference between them. Perhaps my earlier photo that I took off the eBay listing where I won it is poor. I just took this one about five minutes ago.

Also, please excuse the glare. I should have removed the glass back but was just too lazy.

The only thing I'm a little upset about is the mess some butcher made of the screw on that larger gear (sorry, I don't know what it's called).

BUd,
Yes upon looking now the damaskeening looks almost the same, the only difference I can really see, is the star regulator, that is of course to my untrained eyes. They are really nice watches though. It is the only 845 I have, I have several Cresxent streets, Vanguards,645'5, Riversides, and was fortunate to pick this up just in the past couple of weeks, a nice addistion to my ever growing collection. I am going to have to start making decisions and figure wht I really want to go after, I have quite a collection of Elgin RR's, with some Balls and Hamiltons also. I think I will maybe start getting rtid of some of my non RR grade watches, just having problems doing it.
Oh Well, as you are finding out watch collecting is definitely addictive.
