Wondering how checkerboard or two-tone process was done at the factory. There is good old picture of the damaskeening pattern machine at the factory producing multiple units. Is checkerboard gold applied everywhere then etched off? Is it so thin it wears away over time ? Thanks Mike
I did search this site and Google, but no luck. The bonus here is access to the greatest minds in PW research. Hijacked photo below.

There is a great post about two tones on this site. I have trouble posting links. I understand the search engine will bring it up. Using Google and searching for Hamilton two-tone 940 Brings up the 185 thread from July 3, 2005. It is a hood read about two-tones!

Mike, two-tone Damaskeening was accomplished by; 1. Burnishing in the damaskeening as desired under the gold plate. 2. Gold Plating over that. 3. Selectively Damaskeening through the gold plating to create the "two-tone" effect by leaving the freshly damaskeened surface showing the nickel color.
