Can I ask our experienced watch men on this forum for advice on the most suitable light for working on dismantling repairing and assembling of pocket watches.

I have set up a work bench in my spare room but unfortunately it doesn't face a window. It is in the corner of the room with a blank wall to the side and shelves above.

I'm thinking of some sort of lamp to fix beneath the shelving or a freestanding lamp on the workbench but space will be a bit limited.

Also what sort of light to use i.e. daylight bulb, fluorescent etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the world of the never ending gobstopper.

I am a huge fan of the little secretary desk as a work station and sorting area. I started with the first desk and light... then acquired the pub table, light and tool bench... then acquired the larger secretary with storage drawers for parts and supplies...

The mag-lights work well for me. The white one is fluorescent, the black one is LED. Both perform well.

This is the receiving and sorting station.

Tear down, cleaning, repair, reassembly station

And, my timing and finishing station. The drawers hold all my pending projects, spare cases, spare movements, one for PW parts, and the last for anything related to wrist watches.
