Sorry camera is "out of service" at this time. Case has engine turned back with small floral design, dust free crown with french bow. This is a fairly plain looking case. Thankyou for your post, Jim. James Daigle | ||||

I have some Fahys cases from the 1920s with slightly lower numbers but they are not the Montauk model. It is possible they used a different numbering sequence for each model. Some case companies used different sequences for white versus yellow and such so time frame can be difficult to determine. About what came in your case, the Montauk was generally considered to be a generic or jeweler item which means any make could in theory have come in it. The case-screw marks may actually be the only valid clue. For that reason their exact positions or as John suggested a picture would be helpful.  | |||

17j Elgin with serial#16004713 came in this case. Just thought it odd that it was marked RR in the case back. Maybe someone was proud of the Elgin and put it in railroad case? Thankyou, Jim. James Daigle | ||||

I think you're right Jim, From the number that movement dates to 1911 production... http://elginwatches.org/cgi-bin/elgin_sn?sn=16004713&action=search It is fair to say your watch was probably cased at the selling retail jeweler. If it is a high pendant case and there are no other case-screw marks it could be an original combination. Do show us a picture in this topic when you can. Lindell | |||
