Hey Roger,

Show us a picture and we will tell you, whether it's brass or "gold plated" Smile

The regular brass center wheel spokes will be flat and NOT rounded and will have the same finish appearance as the rest of your train wheels.
The "gold plated" center wheel spokes will be ROUNDED and the wheel will have a shine or glow to it like GOLD and will be a different shade than the rest of the brass train wheels Smile

Hope that will help you Big Grin

regards,
bb

Yes, and perhaps even easier to spot, they will either be highly polished which is referred to as a "Gold Center Wheel" or a dull sort of sand-blasted look. When a watch has a "Gold Train" all of the train wheels are the same highly polished gold.

Hope that helps,

Lindell

That goes for all of us with one or two exceptions but I´m not one of them.
However, it looks like gold to me too.

Don't forget to consider that over the hundred years or so life of these watches that parts get changed! I recently serviced a 992b that had a corroded center wheel pinion. The replacement part came with a non-gold wheel and I swapped the gold wheel to the new pinion. I doubt that would have happened in years past. They would have just put the new wheel & pinion in and let it go at that. At least that is my opinion.

Hi Jerry,

Iwould expect your watch to have a GCW. It appears to be a "teens" or above watch. I think that possibly the only 992's without a GCW will be from the pre-teens and more than likely it will be a first model fancy damaskeened before Hamilton went to the narrow stripe 992 pattern damaskeening.

Most of the non gold plated center wheels I have seen on 992's came from the fancy 1st models somewhere around the transitional period changeover from the fancy pattern and from 4 foot to 3 foot dials Eek

The s/n is not readable in the photo, but it is #2462777 which dates the movement to 1927....it is a 992L....

I bought the movement from one of these watch canibal's without a dial, hands or case.....I have found hands for it but I still need the appropriate dial and case....Then I'll send it to Chris and let him clean it up and put it back together again....

Anyone out there that may have an extra dial and/or case....lets make a deal.... Big Grin

Regards,

Jerry
