I am traveling to Switzerland soon and am wondering if there any better deals on watches (pocket & wrist) there than here or on the net. Anything special I should look for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In the 1970's when I was doing a lot of Business in Europe, we would land in SW just to pick up untaxed booze, but that aside, does Switzerland have "Pawn" shops?

I was in Switzerland about a year ago. New Swiss watches are sold in numerous shops ... if you are interested in that sort of thing. I'm not sure how the prices compare... Depending on where you are going, there are several horological museums. I can't comment on any because I was only close to one on a Sunday, when it was closed.

If you plan on buying, just know the models you desire and the usa prices. you are bound to save, no duty = plenty of savings. I bought a great watch years ago in the bahamas, saved 400 on a 1200 watch. david - I like your style...pawn shops are a blast. Instructions 1 Research watches before you go to Geneva. You should have an idea of which watches interest you most. You can find information about Swiss watches at the Federation of Swiss Watch Industry website. 2 Go to the main shopping area in Geneva. The main shopping streets in Geneva are Rue du Rhone, Rue de la Confédération, Rue Basses, Rue du Marché, Rue de la Croix-d'Or, and Rue du Mont-Blanc. You will find many watch stores on these streets. Read more: How to Buy a Watch in Geneva | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_531539...a.html#ixzz2LrjetG2u

I've always heard that Hong Kong, followed by Singapore and Japan, are the best places to buy Swiss watches. I think you'll find watches in Switzerland selling for list for the most part. I like the booze and pawn shop idea, however, but you may want to keep those forays separate.

Don't miss the fantastic and spectacular Patek Philippe museum in Geneva. It will make you want to collect enameled watches. Also well worth a visit is the Beyer museum in Zurich.
