Lorne, If you are looking for that thing that looks like the Maltese cross,That looks to be a stopwork, I think it's called. A lot of the older watches had that, and they were removed quite commonly by watchmakers/ jewelers, as they were deemed not to be really necessary to the operation. I would think someone should have that piece ??? Watches do run quite well without it, but they stopped the watch from forcefully being (overwound). Bill | ||||

Bill, thanks for the explanation, I was just over talking to Ralph and he drew me a picture of the part, his name for it is "spring stop". I will take a photo and post it later. | |||

It is to absorb the tension if you break a mainspring. Or if your mInspring slips in side the barrel. With out this piece all the force of the mainspring will destroy either a jewel, pivot, or some teeth on the gear train. | |||

Eugene, so, until I find the part, am I OK to wind it fully, at most to the point of feeling a bit of resistance? Any input on my suspicion of it being an up-jewelled Railway? | |||
