In checking out this watch I stated to ask some questions of my pocket watch friends.
Facts: as I know them
Serial number 3399388 and all matches
Marked: "Illinois Stewart Special"
16 Size hunter
Model 6
Grade 806
Lever set
Gold train
Raised settings
Gold washed screws and whip spring
Adjusted 3 positions
Double roller
According to the late William Meggers on page 142 of his Illinois Encyclopedia only 270 of 806 grade 19 jewel hunter-case movements were made. Many more, in fact 37,290 of the 21 jewel open face were produced. He also says these were pendent set but this one is clearly lever set. Mr. Meggers also says he had not seen one. Perhaps they were available in both lever set and pendent set or they were all lever set and that fact was unknown at the time.
Anybody have one to share or any insights or just comments.
