I knew they were out there but that is the first one I have seen. a spectacular find !

I looked up the [originally posted] serial number, it shows a 21 jewel ball 999 a few numbers earlier show a 17j 925

Gary,

It is important to recognize the plate is marked "17-Jewels" so it would have been from a 17-Jewel rather than 21-Jewel movement.

Ball-Hamilton 18-size watches were produced in "Mixed Runs" so it is to be expected that there were instances when other grades such as this Hamilton 17-Jewel Burlington Special could occasionally be mixed in with them. Please do confirm that movement number as this would be an unusual circumstance.

What is especially strange is someone removing that plate from what would have been a very unusual and worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing this uncommon plate with us.

Debbie

Gary,

You would also need the dial which is nearly impossible to find. And as Lindell taught me cobbled together watches are not a good idea as they could later be used to fool an unsuspecting buyer. ("Let your conscience be your guide")

Roger is correct, the number 197004 is for a 17-Jewel Hamilton 937 Hunter from 1903 production:

Donald,
I mentioned that as a joke..I have no intention of putting this plate on a another watch other than the 937 serial number 197004 if I ever would come across it but I probably have a better chance hitting the Mega Millions Lottery than that ever happening...LOL..

Good for you Gary,

There are those who do such things, glad Big Grin you are one of the "good guys" of watch collecting. As was pointed out by Debbie it is strange to find this sort of thing, perhaps the movement was considered beyond repair and it became a parts movement.
