Some of you might remember my post about a Key Wind Lancaster acquired rom a local friend which kinda "rang my bells" https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...?r=81610483#81610483 Well I finally got into this puppy and it rang those bells all the more. These Guys had a Patent Pinion that "clutched" like a Hydromatic! . . . and

This is the ONLY Key Wind Key Set I have EVER seen with a let down Cam to unlock the ratchet! It is presently on the wrong side of the spring, but I did not try to change that as this is pretty old stuff, no parts . . . and

of course you see my three generations removed cousin-inlaw's Full Circle Pallet Bridge holding a counter-poised "anchor" pallet fork, a design that is echoed throughout the lifetime of these designs as they migrated to Hamilton Watches.

That takes us back to the movement. THINK of it! This is an 18 size 3/4 Plate Key Wind movement made when most other US watchmakers were still struggling with full plate behemoths! And old Coz still allowed you to set time from the back . . .

So these are the original hands for sure! Of course it is "only 7 Jewels" and the price guide thinks its about a hunnerd bucks, but it runs like heck and looks Like a MILLION!

and "whooed of thunk" a crummy old 7 Jewel Key Wind watch would have 4 Mean time screws for all necessary adjustments!

That's a nice watch, Dave .I've never seen a watch balance wheel with nothing but meantime screws. Is that also a Breguet hairspring or flat. Can't tell from the picture.I thought the name "New Era' was a N.Y. Standard trade name. Thanks for showing it...Ted B.

Theodore, The "New Era" name was used by NYS and Lancaster, but oddly they never got together, just used that name, sorta like the various "Centennial" named stuff.

I have a Lancaster marked Keystone Watch Co. with the same type balance. 4 screws all meantime, no other holes in the balance. The hairspring is flat on mine. It's up for auction on ebay. ![]()
