Would someone please supply me with the basic info regarding my transitional 18s Illinois hunter movement number 969998, single sunk dial, script 'Illinois Watch Co.' on dial, full plate, housed in a silveroid Phil. open face case. Any information would be most apprecaiated. Regards. Mark

Hi Mark,

Looks like 960001 through 970000 were all Model 2, Lever-Set, 7-Jewel movements finished during November of 1886. Interestingly, tens of thousands of serial numbers above and below this group were blocked for similar 7-Jewel movements, both first and second model, many of them private-labeled and some not finished until as late as 1890.

Hope this helps,

Lindell

Yes it did, thank you very much!

Chris, mine has quite a bit of engraving on the plates, as well as the script lettering on the dial. Apparently they spent a little more time 'gussying' it up for a buyer, for some odd reason, especially for a 7j. I'd also guess mine is an original recase, as it has the more modern styled bow and crown (I've seen WW1 era silveroid original cased watches like this one), and by there not being any other screw marks leads me to that conclusion. She's a good time keeper too. Just a nice old carry watch.

Thank you both for your time and information!

Regards. Mark
