I just picked up a really nice looking/running 1888 model Riverside HC movement.I've always heard that these are hard to case.Have any of you had any experience with recasing these?I know that I'd likely never find a hunter case that I could afford, so being it has a Roman dial, I think it would look OK in an OF case, as a "sidewinder".I do have the stem and crown, I realize It's a detent stem setup. Will these 88 models fit a standard 16s case, or does it have to be an old style thick 16s?

As the model 88s are one of my favorites, and as the higher jeweled "88's" are "orphaned" by the gold melters you can case these higher jewel count treasures by keeping an eye open on eBay or marts for lower jewelled model 88 cased watches. These are quite reasonably priced and have good donor parts and a correct stem fitted to a usable case.

Thank you Dave, I never really paid any attention to '88's before I got this one. It's way to nice to just leave it uncased.According to the Ehrhardt Waltham book, these Riversides were fully adjusted "P" grade.Has beautiful damaskeening & finish.

Theodore, this marked "non magnetic" model 88 with double roller design is one of the sweetest (and I think Rarest) in my "88's". Think of it, made in 1894 with double roller, true motor barrel, and a non-magnetic hiarspring. I believe that the Models 1888 and 1892 finished and put into production under the tutelage and direction of then W.W.Co. President Royal E Robbins, put W.W.Co. at their technical pinnacle. At this point in time they were decades ahead of the rest of the worlds watchmakers.

Talk about 2-tone damaskeening "Art of Watchmaking"! These model 88s are beauties! I am just trying to add stimulus to your case search.

Thanks for showing those beautiful 88's. Dave..,I really like that Riverside.Yours has a better style regulator, mine has that earlier style.Mine 1s also a 6 million S.N., so I think it should also be double roller. After 6 mil., the higher grades are supposed to be D.R. I'm checking into a nice Fahys YGF/O.F. case with a 7J '88 in it.Thanks again!...Ted.
