Waltham Crescent St model 1892 Question

I bought this a couple of years ago and stuck it in my desk drawer (had a bad mainspring). I ran the serial number and it came back as a 21j... It's actually marked 19j. Can someone with Waltham info tell me if this was at the beginning of a 21j run? Just curious cause I'm thinking about puttin this on up for sale.. Don't want to mislead folks...

Bruce,

If your information came from one of those more often than not unreliable internet lookup Roll Eyes sites, what you may have is a 19-Jewel movement produced as part of a nominally 21-Jewel run. Lindell often points out that mixed runs were very common throughout the watch industry. Robert is right, we need the movement number.

From the movement number we can check the Waltham book which is usually the most reliable source for information.

A smart person would have put the serial number on his original post.. Duh

Serial number is 12566464.. The big book lists it as a 1 star watch...hmmm

Bruce, here is a link to a 19J Crescent Street page on a website devoted exclusively to the model 1892. It shows that your sn is part of a 19J run.

Robert, thanks for the info.... I didn't really think to look outside of this forum.. Glad one of us is thinking outside of the proverbial box...

Thanks again

Don was right in suggesting a check of the Waltham book.

In the reproduction of page 58 of the Waltham ledgers on numbered page 78 of the Ehrhardt Waltham (1976) book we find numbers 12565501-12566500 listed as follows...

18-size, Model 92, Crescent Street, 19-21-Jewel, Lever-Set, Patent Regulator, Open-Face, Premium Material.

So there you have it Bruce, your movement is from a MIXED-RUN of both 19 and 21-Jewel movements.

Consider selling it right here in our IHC Trading Mart as I am sure there would be plenty of interest.

Lindell
