Hamilton 941 question "Click" to Login or Register
posted
I have an early (5th run) model 941. It appears there were about 25,000 of these beauties made.
Does anyone know how many were marked 941's as opposed to unmarked versions?.

Ray,

This issue has come up for discussion before. Here is one of these topics:

Early Hamilton railroad watches, including the 940 & 941, were unmarked as to grade. However, around 1906, the railroad time inspection rules changed to require movements be marked with the manufacturer's grade number, so Hamilton started adding the grade number.

For 941's I would expect to be so marked, I see only three runs of 1000 watches each on the Gelson List that are post-1906:

1. Mvt #'s 419001-420000, 1906-1908

2. Mvt #'s 667001-668000, 1911-1912

3. Mvt #'s 696001-697000, 1913-1915

So thats 3000 watches out of a total production of 25,411 for the grade 941, relatively uncommon.

Best Regards,

Ed
