If the serial number is 3675931 ( can't quite see ) this comes up as - Royal (Model 1884) Adjusted Size 14 13 Jewels Run of 300 1 Sep - 31 Oct 1888
|
Thanks Gareth You are right about the serial number. I looked in Shugart 2011 and thought it was a Chronograph, 13 j, m#1884,OF, Didn't see a run of 300, That sounds good. I don't see a Royal under s 14. What's the difference between a Chronograph and a Royal. I only see a Royal under s16. Skip

Hi Skip, Gareth is entirely correct, that is a 14-size Waltham "1884-Model" from 1888 production. One of the most interesting points on these is their unusual size, that movement fits only those specially made cases. Many of them were originally housed in Solid-Gold cases and when those are gone finding a replacement is nearly impossible. It is not especially valuable but certainly very worthwhile watch to collect. Your watch is listed on page 130 of the 2011 Complete Guide to Watches as "Royal, 11-13-15 Jewels, Model 1874, 1884" under the 14-size section. Yours is not a "Chronograph" as you will see when comparing your watch to the Chronograph images shown in that same section. Hope this of further help. Lindell

Thanks guys, Gareth were did you find the production numbers? Thanks Lindell, I should have but turned the page and I would have found it. All well, I think the case looks cool. Thanks again. Skip
