Hey I'm a GUY ... Therefore I'm VERY visual, anyone wanna share some of their " pretty " dials ? And this is a 16sz Elgin < I'm waiting to install it on a 14k when I find one ...
|
all of the hand painted portions are " under " the fired glaze , unlike the european ones you see painted after being fired . also note the blue gemlike accents that actually look like faceted stones !

WOW, what a knockout! I have never seen a dial with baguette-style faceted stones (sapphires?) or a dragon fly as the central motif. Truly remarkable! Best Regards, Ed

My fanciest dial... ![]()
|
These are some great dials! The fancy dial was one of the things that first drew me to USA watches(on Elgins).
|
KEEP THEM comming ! i enjoy stuff like this ... after this thread i'd really like to see a similar one on UNUSUAL MARKED RAILROADS !

Here's a couple of Hampden fancies. The one on the left is on a 23j Special Railway ca 1916 and on the left is a 21j marked North American Railway. I don't see either of these in Hernick and Arnold. Ron Birchall ![]()

I thought I would add a couple of dials to this thread. This one is on an 18S Crescent St. model 83. ![]()

This one is on a model 88 Amn. grade. ![]()
|
those are fantastic ...

How about metal dials? A while ago I picked up a number of unused, but time-worn hand-carved private-label dials for Waltham watches (Colonial Series). The gilding seems to have suffered on most of them, but each is unique and interesting. ![]()
|
... another example ![]()

... and another ![]() | ||||
|
These two fit Waltham Colonial A, 10-size movements. They are unusual in the use of enamel cartouche for the numbers. ![]()
|
I'll add one that Lindell and Frank might enjoy. It's on a 1911 SB "305".

This is an Elgin 12s, 17j, solid gold case I put together from scratch. If could fit into my 3-piece suit, I would carry it. ![]() ![]()

Here is a little solid gold Elgin 0s I restored. It was given as a birthday present to an old friend. ![]()
