I recently download an app for my i-phone that some my find helpful and/or fun. It is called Kello. "Kello analyzes the precision of mechanical watches against the iOS system clock using a microphone." The app has an frequency autodetect or you can choose from a menu that starts at 14400 and ends at 36000.
Pictured is my i-phone, ear buds with a microphone and a Walthem 19j 645 that I recently cleaned and oiled that had been running 10 seconds fast per week for the last 2 weeks in the pendant up posistion. It is now timed by Kello in the face down posistion because the mic is cheap and has to "lay" on the movement for a decent signal. I will be looking for a stand alone mic in the near future.

The signal data is updated about every 1.5 seconds. The results on this watch was between +0.9 and -0.6 consistantly for about a minute, so I figure I can take an average of +0.2 seconds a day.

$8.99 is peanuts, and it works on an I-Pad too.

Getting an I-Phone or an I-Pad is getting a little harder to resist.

Any way of getting in on a laptop or PC?

Eric, this might be a place to start looking for a workaround PC application for Wildspectra:

Maybe Kello can be adapted to a PC like it appears Wildspectra can. Need somebody to respond who understands programs and apps better than I do.

At this time I know of no way to run Apple apps on Windows.
There is an open source program being worked on to achieve it, but is not complete at this time.

Hello, I think that the low budget timing tool is fantastic. Peter's suggestion of Wildspectra is the way to go. And if anyone is interested in using Wildspectra on a pc laptop ie...a windows based OS. Here's how to: First, download Bluestacks for your version of windows, but make sure you get it from Bluestacks.com. Because it's freeware, there are a bunch of other sites which offer it, and they are troubleware, they attach their rubbish along with the software. There's no danger, just a pain in the neck. Anyway, after you have Bluestack, you can run any Android based application. By the way, Wildspectra freeware is much better than Kello, in my opinion. Enjoy! Robert
