There must have been some magic in that old broken movement I found. For when I put a balance staff in it, it began to spin around.

I couldnt help myself Smile the title just fit with the season. But this is a nice little movement I picked up in the IHC185 Trading Mart section I also bought a case from Rob but I had this one (Duber Silverine)and I had to exchange the one from Rob.
I have a question for those that look at the post. The movement came with a different dial. Rob sent the one thats on it, and I like it, I am just not sure if its period correct. From what limited research I did it is. Should I put the original back on it?
Here is a pic of the front and back. Smile

It is always good to see them come back to life. Movement looks like it cleaned up nicely also.

Yes it did Rob, and all the blue screws were there. The last watchmaker put one of them in the screw hole for the main plate that is under under the barrel cover and a silver one on the balance cock, I just swapped them.
I think I get more enjoyment in making one run again than I could ever get with just buying one that ran.
This is my first frosted movement. 18s watches have been a focus of my collecting for about the last half year. I had wanted a frosted Waltham but always seemed to get outbid on them. Strangely within a week I got another frosted movement on ebay. I havent gotten it yet. But its a frosted Appleton Tracy so I am really looking forward to getting it running and in a case.

Tom you need to post that Illinois once you get it going. I totally enjoy seeing these come back to life. I remember Dave posting pics of a watch I didnt think was much but the passion he had about it and pics he posted as he brought it back to life totally amazed me and I totally enjoyed it.

Hi Jim I am by no means an expert on anything especially Pocket watches but I have about 20 of these "frosted" movements and none of them have the dial you have in the picture. They all have Roman Numeral dials similar to the one you provided in your link. A couple have a Arabic dial with a railroad track but I don't know if those two are correct since the vast majority are Roman numeral. Confused

Harry he has the original dial that came with the movement which was roman numeral but it had a number on it as seen in the for sale link. I just gave him another dial that was clean and had arabic numbers thinking it was much better looking.

Hi Rob,

Yes it is a much nicer looking dial. It looks great. I thought Jim wanted to know if it was period correct which I attempted to answer. I don't think it is for the frosted movement even though it is a much nicer looking combination. But I don't really know I'm just going by what my movements have on them.

Yes I realize that I actually have another frosted watch running I am fixing to list here on 185, trying to get together another little assortment of watches and dials I have for the members.

Give me a heads up Rob. I collect the frosted movements and I would like to see it when you list it. You never know I may not have that pattern. Wink
