Look at this nice Am Waltham Checkerboard Damaskeened 1883 from August, 1890 or thereabouts.

looks to need a case screw running along keeping railroad time

That's a well marked pattern , I don't think I have ever seen one like that.

Nice one Tom. I have had three or four of those in both open face and hunter style. One of my favorite patterns.
