Dial for a somewhat rare 23 jewel Bunn Special "Click" to Login or Register

I recently picked up this watch, a 23 jewel Bunn Special Model 9 and it was (and still is) pretty rough. I had a nice Keystone case to replaced the trashed one it was in and my question is now, how hard it would it be to find another dial for it. The watch has a 1915 production date so the straight line Illinois dial is probably the one that came with it but it is beyond groaty. I don't mind scouring ebay in search for another one but am I looking at something rather rare and hard to find? The Illinois book only list one dial available for this, one like is on it now, but were there any variations of it? Does someone have a picture they could post of said variation so I know what else to look for? Your help would be appreciated.

Steve

If you look at the Sangamo, it is missing a decent Case. I need a decent case, and you need a decent dial. I can probably help you with the dial of your choice if you have any way to trade me for a decent case. (btw I have $150 in the unmounted dial, and would be happy to pick up the difference to find an authentic case. Backside pictured)

David,
The second watch, the Sangamo, looks like it is the identical dial only in much better condition than mine obviously. While researching you movement it is stated that your movement could have had several dials used including bold or regular Arabic,Gothic style Arabic, and montgomery numerical. Also, they were sold as movement only as the Sangamo was not factory cased until the Model 10 came out. This being said, the only available case I have is a B&B 20 year model in decent shape that the watch would fit into but whether it is period correct I don't know. I can email you pictures or even send the case to you if you will get the information to me. Let me know.

Steve, I have plenty of that type case, but I will swap out the dials, and if that goes OK (sseing as this S.S is a 17s) I will send you the one with the straight line name. If you can use it, send me $100.00 and we have a deal.

Following your suggestion, I put the S.S. in a better Illinois case and swapped the dials, the one you need cleaned up some (I expect you might work on the issue a little more). I will send it to you tomorrow per our e-mails. NOTE, I NEVER sell Illinois Dials, this is a VERY SPECIAL Case! Razz

Dave,
I will be looking for it. May be a good time to try out the Polident if my regular dial cleaner doesn't do the trick. Thanks again....

My latest acquistion came back from repair and cleaning and thanks to Dave Abbe having the exact same dial to replace the totally destroyed one that was in it, it now looks very respectable. It's a 16 size, 23 jewel, Model 9, Bunn Special, manufactured in 1915 with only 2,470 made with the gold lettering. Runs great and keeps good time.

Thank you again Steve, as the parts you so thoughtfully sent me in trade made a nice Getty. As I said before, "Only on 185 can we do this"

David,

Did you tear into that watch and give it a good cleaning? I am glad I found a home for that watch, it was a real beauty a hundred plus years ago and it's not looking to shabby now. Hope you can find a really nice case for it someday.

Mike,
What an eye you have. I sent a 21 jewel 60 HOUR Bunn Special along with this one to get repaired as well and he switched the balance cocks. Now that is just great....I get to pack them up and send them back. Thanks for catching that and I am glad I posted the follow up. The sharp eyes of ihc185 come through again.

You guys caught me for a minute because I did a thorough cleaning and refreshment (really needed) on the Getty. The standout fact was that ALL the numbers matched. The case also cleaned up very nicely, certainly enough for me to proudly carry and show it off as one of the very FIRST Getty run's! It speaks very well for the robust movement design.
