Can I put a track dial on a Hamilton 952 #1629574? It looks like a 1924 movement so I don't think I can, but the customer wants it.

Thank you for any advise.

Regards,
Larry

I'm not clear on what you mean by a "track dial" Larry. Several different Hamilton dials are sometimes called that. How about a picture?

Sorry about that Ed.

Here is the dial, to me it should go on a 950E around the 1937 time frame.

For this [shown below] movement.

I agree Dave, but this customer/friend tells me what he wants and expects me to be sure it is correct for the watch.

I was thinking A Montgomery BMS dial.

Thank you guys.

Regards,
Larry

That's right Larry, it's the dial that came out on the 950 Elinvar Mainliner (circa 1937-1939).

The single-sunk version of the "track dial" (Dial 082) had a much longer life, in both enamel and melamine versions, including late 950 Elinvar Mainliners (circa 1940-1941).

Thanks Ed,

I learned something more. I didn't realize about the single sunk dial.

Larry,

Below is an illustration from 1924 which shows an earlier version of a "track" dial on a 950. Here is a post which shows a picture of that dial. Need a number for the Hamilton dial. Perhaps this is the dial your customer prefers.

Thank you Richard.

It just so happens that he has that very dial.

While we're on Hamilton track dials, here is an even older 18-size version that had red 5-minute markers, which is my favorite pre-1900 Hamilton railroad-style dial.

It came with Arabic numerals as here on my 938 (movement #13782, circa 1896)

And also came with Roman numerals, as here on my 939 (movement #12066, circa 1896)

Wow nice dials Ed!

I found an old Waltham pendent set with a dial like that with the Roman numerals. It was like new.

I think they are really nice looking dials.

My customer is very happy now and thanks everyone.

Larry

Together we know a lot more than any of us does individually. Cool
