Ok does anyone know why this serial number would come up as a 21j Riverside rather than a 23j Maximus.

Check the serial number on the underside of the balance cock. If they don't match.......it's a FRANKENSTEIN watch.

Well I thought maybe but if you look close the damaskeening all matches and the bridge with the serial number on it is the same one with Maximus on it. The whole watch looks like it never was carried the 14K case is so crisp, so I find it hard to believe it was ever repaired much less made into a frankenwatch.

Waltham's Production records show 11534301-500 as the 23 J Maximus. 11534286 is only 15 short of that run, so I have no doubt it is clearly from the listed Maximus 23 Jewel run. There were errors like this in the factory records.

I think this has Diamond caps on BOTH the Escape Wheel and Balance wheel.

Thanks Dave I tend to agree this watch is just to pristine to be a frankenwatch. When I get time I will pull balance in case anyone asks but for now I need to get stuff listed this flu has had me down.

Rob, It is clearly not a frankenwatch. Dave's explanation is the most likely explanation. I would certainly not be hesitant at all to be a buyer.

Interestingly I found some photos of a 23J Riverside Maximus hunter also in the same serial # range as yours, 11534249, from an EBay sale about 2 years ago. So at least for your serial # range the database is wrong.

Beautiful... I'm trying to figure out how many little league watches I need to sell to afford this one.

Rob this is one that passed through my collection and is quite like yours. Note it DOES have the same 2 Pair Diamond End stones. Quite a watch!

David: Is the dial on the watch you show correct? I thought all the 16s Riverside Maximus dials had Waltham written in script.

Jerry, sadly the scripted dial was one the watch but had a small corner missing on the inner chapter above the 5 so I replaced it (like a dummy!). The scripted one is probably still here in my dial "stash".
