I frequently read here where someone picked up a nice watch, but they never say what corner they were at when they found it so others could look too... And here I thought his was a friendly group Smile

Well, the other day I 'picked up' this nice Longines Express Monarch, 21J watch. It was RR Approved by the CPR RR in 1910. Its a watch model not often seen.

Swingout movement signed by The Bichsel Bros., Sedalia, MO. The Bichsel Bros. Jewelry store is still operating. The name is evidently pronounced, 'Bixsel'.

Dearly beloved - we are gathered here to mourn the passing of another day without issue, and the fact that this watch collector's version of the miraculous conception is not universal, happens in only very few places, and only to the chosen few ,so saith Tom ,unchosen ,sad, and envious Frown Wink Big Grin

Nice watch Mike!

Here is a little I found on the Bichsel Brothers. In the 1870 census for Sedalia, Mo. there is a George Bichsel who was born about 1832 in Switzerland, he is listed as a watchmaker.

Living with him are his wife Estelle born in Switzerland 1832. Their children Emil 1853 Switzerland age 17 listed as a watchmaker. Estelle Switzerland 1855, Eddie Switzerland 1860, Laura Switzerland 1862, and George 1866 Ohio.

1880 they are still together in Sedalia, the father George is listed as a watchmaker & Emil as works with jeweler.

There was no census for 1890.

1900 the mother & two sons, Emil & George are living together in Sedalia. Both sons are employed as jewelers. Emil is show as being born Feb 1858 & George Feb 1866.

1910 George has married to Mabe & brother Emil is living with them. Both are listed as jewelers.

1920 the three are still living together, George's wife is listed as May Z. Both brothers are listed as jewelers

1930 All three still together, wife is now listed as Mary T., her mother also lives with them, she is Rose J. Trader. George & Emil are listed as jewelers at jewelry store.
