Top of Case with viewing window.

According to Marvin Whitney's classic "Military Timepieces" Pg 331, this canister "acted as a magnetic shield, shielding the watch from possible magnetization by fields set up by stray electrical currents within the airplane."

Good going John. Thay don't come like this every day. While I have a metal box in a carton, it does not have the instructions like yours does. As always, your images are first rate and informative.

BTW, did the watch come with a rubber watch protector and a leather strap? It's not clear to me if the govt. repackaged the 4992B with these items or if Hamilton supplied them.

Best regards,
Greg

Nice watch Robert. Looks to me like this was a prototype. The dial looks very similar to the 37 size 7992B, but the 7992B has a sub seconds area and is based on the 18 size Hamilton 940.

I found a reference to another 37 size Hamilton military watch prototype called a 2992B, but I haven't found any pictures of one.

Your Model 34 watch is not mentioned in Marvin Whitney's book Military Timepieces.

Are you interested in selling this? There are folks here who specialize in Hamilton military watches who would be very interested.
