Until this example showed up, I never heard of an Imperial Navy ships clock with a time and strike movement. It has a rather simple 30 hour movement made by Seikosha. It has an internal bell which is struck on the hour but not the half hour.

We can be fairly certain that such clocks would not have been installed in submarines, as these vessels had to run silently when being stalked by subchasers armed with depth charges. The submariners would not want enemy sonder to pickup the ding ding ding of three o'clock!

Unfortunately, the clock was in poor condition. Someone had tried to fix it, but made things much worse! I took some images which are useful for re-assembly, but these images were of limited use, given that the clock had been improperly assembled.

Eventually, I was able to repair the movement. It's been striking the hour and keeping time reasonably well. Fortunately, the case, dial and hands had not been tampered with, so everything is ship-shape.
