Correct, John. Some of us do like that stuff:

Here is a Signal Corps marked WWI binocular by Talbot Reel, & Mfg. Co., of K.C. Mo. USA The case is also rather nice, with a compass built into the lid.

Here is another, smaller sized model by Weiss Instrument Co. of Denver, also marked "Signal Corps U.S. Army". But this one has a rather simple case:
