I bought six 400 day clocks a couple of weeks ago at a estate auction ,,these are the frist clocks i have ever bought...two are in carriage style cases the other 4 dome style..

I know these are not vailable clocks nor anything rare but i find them very interesting..

I have been trying to regulate the time on one of them and it seems that whatever i do the clock still runs too slow,it is a kundo german made clock and still has the hang tags ,,it was very dirrrty when i got it and had been in storage for a long time..

What am i doing wrong

...Samie, I'm assuming that you've turned the rating nut as far to the left(counterclockwise) as you can (looking down over the clock from the front)...however, if it's dirty or 'gummed-up', or both, you really ought to clean it or have it cleaned if you haven't already...dirt and grime in the pivot holes 'et al' will certainly slow 'er down...with all that done, if it still runs slow then I would suggest that you change to a stronger suspension spring; yours may have weakened...

Thanks Jim dirt may be the problem the movement looks clean but but i am sure any oil is long ago dried up..,,i have tried the rating nut and it got it closer but is still loosing 10 minutes in 24 hours running time..

these clocks were setting in a attic and had about a inch of dust on them also a few spider webs..I may try and service it ((wish me luck)) i gave the high price of 2.00 for it so if i screw up there won,t be much loss..I can already see that my pocket watch repair tools will not work on these big parts..but hey i can see the parts which is getting to be a problem for me working on pocket watches..

the glass bome on one is cracked can these be bought...

Hi Sammie, a word of caution, which you probaly know already. The mainsprings are very strong in 400 day clocks, make sure you let down the mainsprings before taking them apart.I almost had one get away from me because of broken teeth on the winding wheel.I almost got hurt and broke my clock. Hello everone you fellas were right about the suspension spring i picked the clock up to take some pictures and the spring broke..

so my next step will be to find a spring the right size and length..do i mike the thickeness and lenth of the old one,,or is that what i need to do.

Hi Sammie it looks like you have a 1949 plate1367 if it says made in Germany or a 1950 plate 1371 if it says made in west Germany. eather way it takes a .0032 spring if you make it your self. You will need the Horolovar repair Guide 10th edition if you are making it your self or you can call Mile Hi and order it premade. Just let him know what back plate it is.

Sammy,
You can find glass domes at Michaels Crafts, Hobby Lobby and other craft stores. I have too many and would send you a couple for just the postage.
