This 8 day wall clock had a broken strike train spring and other issues. It has a balance wheel which looks similar to those used in big old alarm clocks. Though not worth much, it's interesting. ![]()

The HOPE trade mark and the initials on the movement are from a Japanese clockmaker. So far I have no other information other than the national origin of the clock. Vintage? I'd say around 1890-1935. ![]()

Unfortunately, someone attempted to repair the clock in the past. Lead solder was used to attach the end of the hairspring. The solder flux caused corrosion. ![]()

Fortunately, I had a box of very old alarm clock parts. After many tries I found the right hair spring balance wheel combination to make the clock keep time. Of course before the escapement work, I had to replace the strike spring and clean the clock properly. ![]()

The experiments in attempting to get the clock timed properly with alarm clock parts took quite a lot of time. While waiting to see if the clock was keeping time, I tightened up the loose parts of the wooden case. The dial needed a little toughing up. Fortunately, my wife is a fine artist and she was able to make the dial look much better. ![]()

And here it is. Keeping time reasonably well. Of course, it's still not worth much money. But that's not the point. ![]()
