Just got nice small mantle clock made by Mappin and Webb made in France can some one help me out with the year looks to be 8 days movement. clock measure 12 inches long and 6 inches tall

Hi Peter,Your clock probably dates to late 1800's or early 1900's.The platform escapement made them run in any position,They don't have to sit level like a pendulum clock.The slots in the platform are so you can adjust the depth of the escape pinion into the contrate wheel.There is a pinion on the bottom of the escape wheel that meshes with the contrate wheel thus driving the train.Many of these types of clock were used in staterooms aboard Cruise ships.I've had and worked on a lot of these type of French clock.Regards.Norm

wow great to know and thanks clock run slow about 4 minutes so cleaning and oiling is a must. and looks to be 8 days clock please correct me if Im wrong
