I was wondering if you could give me any information on this watch. I can't seem to find out very much about it. I will include pictures. It is missing the stem, and I am wondering how much that devalues the watch and how easy it is to have restored. Thanks! I have up close pics of the inside watch works if that helps. You'll have to click on the link(there are 3 or 4 links, I can't seem to figure out how to add a pic Smile

In that first topic you'll see one Samie Smith shared that looks a lot like yours. I agree it looks like your stem and crown are missing, the rest of it would be normal service and restoration as required. This is a very good watch that is worth doing right, let's see what others have to say about it. I know we have IHC185 Members who can do a proper restoration at a fair price.

Hi Teresa,

That is a correct advertisement from the IHC185 Hamilton Archives, glad it helped in your research.

Your movement number which appears to be 2008449 (or close to it) would be from a run consisting of 2004001-2035000 which are 986 from 1915 through 1921 production. Apparently 1923 was the final year with over 56,000 produced. See numbered page 19 in the Gelson Listings for more. These watches are desirable 17-Jewel Open-Face size 6/0 movements and have a following among collectors, click and explore the "Find-Or-Search" that Debbie provided earlier for previously posted information.

Looks like Hamilton replaced the 986 with the 986A and made over 91,000 of them.

Thanks so much for all of your help. I am considering selling it, but am not sure if I should have it repaired first or let the new owner have that privilege. Would you have an opinion on that? Thanks, Teresa
