Can someone help me identify the "value" of this movement?

The movement is an ETA, 853. It is marked Swiss and 15 Rubis. I bought the watch in southern Spain years ago. I am curious if this is/was a nice base movement. Also, it "ticks" quite loud. It is an old mechanical movement as you described. I know Gueblin had an ETA 853 it in a watch they produced. It has to be quite an older model, because that movement # does not show up on any of the ETA cross ref data I have. I have found a picture of an ETA 853, looks different than the movement picture you have listed

As far as value,in my opinion it's basically what the movement was cased in by which manufacturer eg, Gueblin, Certina, etc etc

Maybe if some other people look at the movement they may be able to help. I am not sure if people realize that when they bring up the image you posted, if they click in the middle they will get a super size to get a better look at the movement

Do you know if there exists a website with ETA movements in order of caliber(s) and/or production dates?

I don't know a thing about this watch, but I had to lighten it, to see it, thought others may need to also, so maybe this picture would help with the finding out about the movement.

Are you sure this is an ETA 853, if so how did you deduce that. It is an ETA, I can basically verify that, but it's the 853 I am not sure of.
What watch did this movement come cased in. (maker)

I am relatively sure it is cal 853 as the number is stamped on the movement. I am unsure how to post photos, but will try here. I will email the dial photo to anyone that would like to see it.

Thats fine, it just looks different from the photo i was able to find. I saw your pic, no problem.

Heres a little data.

The ETA 953 was around the 1950 time period had 17/19 jewels was a manual wind with a sweep secod hand, a variant of thte 953 is the 1035,1036.
Now based on that the 853 should be around that time period or earlier I would think.
So the next step is to look at the watch versus just the movement.

Very nice looking watch by the way. Now Tanger is not listed in Swiss companies between 1946-1959.

I can find NO foundation data for that name.

Based on that the watch is probably a PRIVATE label watch made for a botique or a jewerly store or something of that nature.

In the time period we are speaking of 1950 or earlier I am sure like today there was a lot of that going on.

I have not been able to find any Tangers for sale after i go thru more than enough sources.

So I guess we need to keep looking, and you thought watch collecting was easy, LOL

I have an interesting thing that just happened to me re: an Omega Seamaster I own from the 70's. took me 2.5 months to figure out what was going on, and a lot of help from Omega, before I feel comfortable with my end result.

I used to have a very similar watch which I also bought in Spain around 1963. I think these types of watches were made for the "tourist market". I'd guess they don't have much commercial value these days. If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say in good running condition it may be worth between $45.00 - $85.00 (in Europe) and $35.00 - $55.00 in the US.. Mostly it depends on the value of the of case it's in.
