How common was it for a manufacturer to bother putting a self-winding mechanism on a low-grade movement? This Gotham is actually a nicely finished movement, in spite of only having 7 jewels. It is also shock-resistant and non-magnetic.

claims to be waterproof. The movement fits into a tub that is held in the case frame from the back by four screws, at the lugs, that push the tub tight against the crystal and washer.
