I was asked by a fellow collector to post some picturees of the Hamilton Glendale. The Glendale is a small & very rare Hamilton wrist watch. I think it is one of the most ornate, and one of the most interesting Hamilton wristwatches. It is certainly one of the most rare.

Rene Rondeau, in his must have book: Hamilton Wristwatches, A collector's Guide, describes the Glendale in the following manner:

This very rare was described as " Rich in design, a popular model for business or sports, smartly styled to meet the demand for an ornate strap watch" As an indication of how untrue that claim of popularity proved to be, Hamilton's records later report "to reduce stock of cases on hand when inventory of 979 movements was exhausted - about 195 white and 140 yellow Glendale cases were sent to Schwab & Wuischpard to be melted"

Hamilton's notes add style not popular, demand not active."

97 were made in 14K yellow gold.
209 were made in 14K white gold.

Profoundly rare, extraordinarilly beautiful, this is one of my favorite Hamilton watches.

The Glendale and also the Rectangular appear to be the most ornate of the early 986/987 Hamiltons ?

Dan,

The Glendale has the 979 movement.

Attached is a photo of the Rectangular. I agree that it, with the Glendale, are the two most ornate, engraved Hamilton's.

The Glendale is TINY: 32 mm by 28 mm.

The Rectangular is one of the largest Hamilton watches. I will post measurements later.
