Andy KrietzerThere was a special about this device on "The History Channel" in a series called "Ancient Discovery" on March 11, 2004. Their website is
historychannel.com, but I couldn't find any information about this show listed. There were three shows, this one on The Greek Inventions, one on the Roman Doctor Galen, and one on Heron of Alexandria, all seemingly modern, but 2000 years old.
The Antikythera was a water powered device which showed the positions of the stars. This was an ancient clockwork computer.
Here is an article about it from the 1959 Scientific American magazine. In the History Channel special, they did even more investigations on it and took xrays which revealed even more than was found in 1959.

Mark CrossI saw the special too, Andy. VERY interesting, though they seemed more impressed with the fact that the box was full of gears, rather than actually explaining how the one found functioned. They sort of skirted that issue, didn't they? Regards. Mark
