George, That's a beautiful, as well as very scarce Hamilton. We have S/N 419042 recorded as being marked "Special", with tu-tone damaskeening and S/N 419089, recorded as a "941 Extra" in our database, with no special damaskeen noted, so this run of 100 may have been reserved for custom marked and/or damaskeened movements. Yours uses the same damaskeen pattern that was used by Hamilton on most of the 16 size Hayden W. Wheeler special bridge movements. The third run of those movements (275,XXX) were being completed at the same time as your movement. I know of a few non-HWW 16 size, but are there any other 18 size movements that also used this "wavy line" pattern? Ed Ueberall IHC Member 34 The Escapement
Ed, Roy e. showed a 944 #522,109 on pg. 26 of his 1980 price indicator with regular Ham. marking-that's only other 18s besides the HWW VERITEMPS 940 & 941 I've seen. George.
George / Ed, Additional watches do exist with the "Wheeler" damaskeening pattern including serial number 180,612 which has standard Hamilton markings. I have also seen others including a 940 marked something like Made Especially for - Hayden W. Wheeler, Maiden Lane" Rhett Rhett Lucke
Also some non HWW 16's have the same pattern including a 975 with private label markings (Pirtle - sp?). Rhett Lucke
