Keith - what are the serial numbers of those two 304's? One of them looks kind of like the 315 style.

IHC185, we are very close! Instead of listing the Grades we have I've made the list of what is not in THIS thread. I know some of them have been pictured before in other threads. So, here's what's missing:

100
101
111
120
121

Polaris

309
327
328
329
331
346

And I may have made some mistakes but I think we are pretty darn close! I'm very proud. Smile

P.S. - Ernie, thanks for that ton of 18s movement pics. Great!

Here is an 0-size grade 120: Note: the serial number, 681298, falls within the range for a 121 in the South Bend Database but the movement is that of a 120. We need to do some more research on the number ranges for 120 and 121.

Those number ranges are incomplete. Unfortunateley the few people that have lists that could be collated and use for research aren't on speaking terms.

Well, I've had time to take all the images and put them on the website.
So now at southbendhorology.com you can scroll down to the bottom of the page and there are links to each of the watch grades. It's a first for South Bend watches (although you can also just browse through this thread) and not even common to be able to browse through pictures of different grades of movements for any of the companies.

Unfortunately I have some sad news... there are still pictures of some of the grades missing!

What's missing is:

111
121
302
327
329 "The Studebaker"
337
346

I realize those are some of the rarer watches but if anybody has one of these please take a picture of the movement and post it in this thread.

And thanks again to all have participated in this thread!

According to record, they made 500 grade 302 watches in 1903. Does anyone have one?

I just picked up this pvt. label South Bend.

It is my first South Bend and I am pleased with the fine workmanship of the watch. Is is apart at the moment and it is all origional, including the main spring, and excepting the hands. Would anyone know if any of the three are origional?

An 18s, 17J, model #1, grade 341, ca. 1905, adj temp and 3positions.

Nice watch Ed, I can't help you with what is original.

If you have not researched Mr. Thompson yet he was;
1880 census Cherry Valley NY
Thompson, Lyman W. born about 1826 in NY, son was Avery J. born about 1852 in NY. Both were living together & listed as jewelers.

Lyman was a just of the peace in Cherry Valley & also a Captain in the 39th Regiment of Infantry in NY with a date of rank Jan 3, 1863.

Tom,
Thank you very much for the information on Mr. Thompson. Hopefully some day I will get to Cherry Valley and do some research on Mr. Thompson and his son.
Thanks to you I have a good start. Smile

Here we go. I'm going to finish off the list of movements not on here, except the 302, which none have been seen that I know of... Here is the first, a 111 0s south bend. It is in a coin silver case with a multicolor dial.
